Hertford Bridge, Oxford, England

July 2017: The last morning of our sketching workshop I was out early looking for a spot that I could sit, and practice perspective drawing and watercolour.  I chose a narrow street looking back with the Radcliffe Camera’s dome in the distance, but not before taking pictures so that I could sketch from photographs once I was home. One thing about our visit to Oxford- this time of years there were lots of tourists, making it difficult to sketch on site, without being in someone’s way.

The Hertford Bridge, sometimes referenced as the Bridge of Sighs,  was just such a photo.  The Bridge is a skyway joining two parts of Hertford College over New College Lane. The bridge was completed in 1914.  It links college administration areas (to the north), to mostly student accommodations (to the south).
