April 2016: Spring is finally here in Ottawa. Last week I was able to cycle to work. On my way situated between the entry ramp to the Queensway, and Richmond Road, is the Silver Spring farm.
The Farm, an important example of nineteenth-century rural architecture, consists of a central farmhouse, and a cluster of barns in the landscape setting. The barn complex, with gambrel roofs are four attached barns, a “U”-shape, and reflect the interest in scientific design of farm buildings at the turn of the century.
The barns and farm land are leased from the National Capital Commission and are presently occupied by the Ottawa and District Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities.
