December 29 2015: Imagine: Dr. Suess meets Fred Flintstone. Spiky trees, piles of rocks, mountain ranges, tumbleweed, and blue sky. Joshua Tree National Park is the junction of three California ecosystems: the Colorado Desert, the Mojave Desert and Little San Bernardino Mountains. Our second day of cycling was my favorite. Jim and I chose to start within the National Park limits and cycle 20 miles to our picnic lunch destination. The scenery was different than anything we had ever seen. The weather was unseasonably cold. Once we reached our lunch destination- even the most dedicated cyclist on our trip had had enough of the wind, and picnic plans were rearranged to the local bar – Joshua Tree Saloon, a quirky local eatery.
